Clarkston Village, MI

Thinking of calling Clarkston home? This quaint area offers a small village area feel. It is surrounded by the general community of Clarkston and Independence Township. The Village of Clarkston is a suburb of Detroit with a population near 1000 and is one of the best places to live in Michigan. Living here offers residents a sparse suburban feel and most families and retirees own their homes. The public schools in the Village of Clarkston are highly rated.

Living in the village is unique and offers a lifestyle of charming picturesque older houses dating back to the late 1850s. Each offers distinct features of size, architectural design and layout. The Clarkston area is home to numerous parks and places to unwind. Depot Park, located on Depot Road in downtown Clarkston, includes a beautiful gazebo and playground for children to play. Buck Shots Bar & Grill is a famous restaurant and bar along with Mr. B’s Roadhouse.

Clarkston Village was named for the two settlers who did the most to improve the town, Jeremiah and Nelson Clark. Jeremiah and Nelson built both a sawmill and gristmill, were active in local politics (Jeremiah served as Township Supervisor and Justice of the Peace), started a fish hatchery, opened a general store, planted the first apple trees and acted as postmasters. They also platted the village in 1840. In 1842, the settlers voted to name the village Clarkston.

Nearly 200 years fast forward, the residents of this quaint community come together to celebrate annually with the Taste of Clarkson, Shiver by the River in January, free concerts held in Depot Park, Clarkston Area Farmer’s Market, Art in the Village, the Holiday Market and so much more! For families with children, a favorite is Fort Clarkston with a stop at Clarkston Union Bar and Kitchen.
