Lake Orion and Lake Orion Village, MI

Originally thought of as the “up north” destination for the Detroit autoworkers during the 1920s-1930s, this quaint community quickly became the summer resort destination. Many summer cottages were originally built here, later turned into year-round residences. Lake Orion is a village on the north side outskirts of Metro Detroit in Oakland County. “Lake Orion” is often used to describe both the village and the much larger Orion Township of which the village is a part.

Some popular single-family residential developments include Keatington Lake View Sub, Marina Point Subdivision, Marina Park Estates, Bald Mountain Estates, The Estates at Bald Mountain, Indianwood Hills, The Shores of Long Lake, Turnberry, Heather Lake meadows and Sunset Hills Subdivision. All sports Lake Orion (less commonly known as “Orion Lake”) is a medium-sized inland lake, with an area of 506 acres. It has a maximum depth of 80 feet and an average depth of 16 feet. The lake is located within the Village of Lake Orion and Orion Township. It is the eighth largest lake by area in Oakland County. Lake Orion is home to the General Motors Orion Assembly plant employing over 1,000 salaried and hourly employees. Cruise on Lake Orion with Orion Marine Pontoon Rentals and Historic Boat Tours or visit nearby Bald Mountain State Recreation Area/Shooting Range. This 4,637-acre recreation area has several picnic areas, a modern accessible shooting range, large hunting areas, several fishing lakes, two trout streams, a sandy swimming beach and 15 miles of marked hiking and biking trails. It is immensely popular for its eight miles of groomed cross-country skiing trails and snowmobiling, sledding and ice fishing. Water Warrior Island is bringing a brand-new recreation experience to Oakland County at Bald Mountain State Park. The floating inflatable playground features 20 ft water slides, rock climbing walls, trampolines and much more.

Olde World Canterbury Village, a designated historical landmark in the State of Michigan, extends over 21 acres on what once was part of the old Scripps Farm. The Village is host to 14 specialty shops and has many distinctive features. The recently re-located Aldridge’s Always Christmas store is one of the largest and most unique Christmas stores anywhere! The fieldstone wall that once was the foundation of the original hay barn on the Scripps Farm, built circa 1870, is now the backdrop for many of the displays in our new Always Christmas store. Come enjoy the Made in Michigan store, or have a family-style dinner at the King’s Court Castle Restaurant and Banquet Center.
